Preservation Issues for Small Museums & Family Custodians

Saturday, November 2, 9:00am-3:00pm

Maine Historical Society, Portland, Maine

Are you working with a local historical organization with a collection of documents and objects or taking care of important family papers and heirlooms?  If so, this workshop is meant for you.  Presented by Maine Historical Society in partnership with Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), this one-day technical workshop is designed for small historical organizations, small museums and local historical societies as well as individuals who are the custodians of important family papers and heirlooms.  It covers the agents of deterioration that affect collections (including environment, light, pests and pollutants), as well as best practices for storage and handling of archives and artifacts.  Potentially hazardous collection items will also be discussed.  Time is allotted for questions and participants are encouraged to bring items that are stable enough to travel along for discussion.  Lunch is not provided.

Cost:

Maine Historical Society Members:  $55

Non-Members:  $65
