POSTPONED:

Surveying Your Repository to Create Basic Control and Plan for the Future

We need to cancel this event for now, but we will reschedule for a future date.

Whether young or old, chaos creeps into the best-run special collections. Do you know what collections you have, where they are, and what work they require in terms of processing, access systems, and preservation?

Surveying and documenting your repository will create the tool you need to plan for the future.

Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.

The event will be followed by a free social mixer.

Your Presenter

Susie R. Bock’s career spans 30 years, from processing manuscript collections at Yale’s Beinecke Library, to managing technical services at Special Collections, University of Colorado at Boulder, to coordinating University of Southern Maine’s Special Collections and directing the Jean Byers Sampson Center for Diversity in Maine. She has dealt with collections from hands on work to planning their acquisition to public access. While at Boulder she oversaw the first survey of that department’s rare books and manuscript collections and led a similar effort at USM about 15 years after creating its special collections department.

The Venue

The Glickman Family Library is located on the Portland campus of the University of Southern Maine at 314 Forest Ave. The workshop will be held on the 7th floor.

Free parking is available at the parking garage on site, accessible off Bedford Street. After parking in the garage, exit the garage heading toward Forest Ave. The Library is within sight of the garage, across the surface parking lots.

Directions and more info on parking available here.

Accessibility: This space is accessible for wheelchair users.

Bathrooms: The bathrooms on the 7th floor are multi-stall bathrooms labeled "men" and "women." There are multi-stall bathrooms on the 3rd floor labeled "all genders."

Online registration will be open through October 13.  To register after this date, contact Susie Bock at susie.bock@maine.edu or 207-780-4269.
