Institutions, Racial Equity, and Diversity Planning

An Online Workshop

This 2-hour workshop affords participants the chance to reflect on the power that institutions wield in society, the inadvertent harm they can cause, and proven strategies institutions are using to be a force for social justice and equity.

Together we will look at some of the ways that the history of white supremacy and the history of archives and museums are intertwined. We will look at how structural biases can persist in organizations despite the personal beliefs of individuals involved. We will review various institutional responses to racial equity concerns and introduce a methodology to evaluate the efficacy of these programs. Participants will leave with an expanded critical toolbox and resources related to both stakeholder engagement, and to recruiting, hiring, promotion, and retention of diverse volunteers, staff, and leadership.
