Institution description
MFS is home to the pinnace Virginia, a reconstructed 17th-century sailing ship that represents the first English-built, ocean-going vessel made in the “new world.” Discover early colonial history and the beginnings of Maine’s shipbuilding heritage: exhibits include artifacts from the nearly forgotten 1607-1608 Popham Colony as well as elements of a traditional boatyard. Lectures, workshops, and community events on the banks of the Kennebec River—come explore History, Ingenuity, & Community with us!
