Meant to encourage greater diversity and reduced burnout in collecting institutions, this requirement is made in coordination with museum associations around the country based on information from the National Emerging Museum Professionals Network

    SUMMER 2019

    The Brick Store Museum in Kennebunk, Maine, seeks a Museum Intern (2 positions available) to support the operations of the Museum between June and August 2019, for approximately 10-12 hours per week. This internship offers a well-rounded museum experience in which the candidate will work in all aspects of small museum operations, including: visitor services (welcome desk, general information, registration, and payment processing),archival research (to produce two history-based articles for publication in the Museum’s newsletter), collections cataloging and data entry (using PastPerfect), exhibition installation (of the Museum’s Bauman Family Gallery), development (membership campaigns and public phase of a capital campaign), and special events and programs assistance. Excellent communication skills and a strong interest in small museums are encouraged. A flexible work schedule can be arranged during the Museum’s hours of operation, Tuesday – Friday, 10:00am – 5:00pm; Saturday, 10:00am – 4:00pm; and Sunday, 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Summer stipend: $1,000.00

    Castine, Maine: The Castine Historical Society is pleased to invite applications for its 2019 graduate level internship.  Students enrolled in a Master's degree or Ph.D. program in a museum studies, history, public history, archival science or related field may apply. The internship commitment is 30 hours per week for ten weeks with a stipend of $2,800.

    This educational opportunity is a way for the Historical Society to participate in and serve the field of history and museum work. Students gain experience with professional staff in a local history setting. The primary project this year is cataloging and preserving the photograph collections housed in the Grindle House storage facility on School Street.  The annual program also involves the student in learning Castine area history and providing walking tours along with local volunteer guides.

    The Castine Historical Society serves as a window into Castine’s extraordinary past. The Society preserves local history and hosts permanent and seasonal exhibitions, lectures, town walking tours, house and garden tours and historic reenactments. The exhibits are closed for the season and will reopen June 10, 2019 and remain open through Columbus Day. The Grindle House offices are open year-round and researchers are welcome by appointment.     The communications manager will serve as a key member of the Museum team, managing and executing communication strategy, media relations, and print and digital outreach efforts for the Colby College Museum of Art and the Lunder Institute for American Art. In this new position at the Museum, the communications manager will be responsible for developing and managing a diverse portfolio of marketing and communications projects that promote a dynamic roster of exhibitions and programs, world-class collections, innovative scholarly and creative initiatives, and forward-looking advancement efforts to multiple audiences. This position will coordinate communications efforts and workflows across the Museum and will work closely with the Colby College Office of Communications.

    L.C.Bates Museum Educator position.  Looking for an opportunity to work in a place of wonder and exploration? We currently are recruiting for a part-time Museum Educator/Assistant (up to 29 hours per week) to work at the L.C. Bates Museum at Good Will-Hinckley. The L.C. Bates Museum houses unique natural history and culture collections. This position primarily involves working with children and families presenting natural history programs, but would also involve working in all aspects of the museum including greeting visitors and presenting tours, cleaning, preparing exhibitions, presenting outside activities, helping develop programs for children and presenting educational outreach programs at schools.

    College Intern to learn as they help with museum natural history activities and collection activities. (Summer 2019)

    Responsibilities of this position will include: Working with museum visitors including teachers, students, campers and families to provide natural science programs and guided tours. Working with museum staff and volunteers to plan, organize, and present history, astronomy and natural history programs and work with museum collections activities. Preparing hands-on science and history projects and materials for children. The successful candidate will be paid an hourly stipend.

    Work schedule and hours will be designed to meet the needs of the project and audience.  (Mid May to August).
